5 things that should be bottled into perfumes
I have yet to find my signature scent.
I think that when you pass the age of…let’s say 27, it’s cool to have signature things. A signature scent, a signature drink, even a signature haircut. Basically, I want to have enough signature things associated with me that someone could go as me for Halloween haha. I want to characterize myself.
I have yet to find the perfect scent that fits my nose, and I think that may partly be because I want perfumes that don’t yet exist - it would be impossible for them to.
So, here are 5 things that I think should - somehow - be made into perfumes.
1. The Northern Lights
I am obsessed with the Northern Lights. Have I ever seen them in person? No, sadly not. Despite a winter trip to Iceland that was specifically to see the Northern Lights, I have not yet gotten a peek at these bad boys.
But that doesn’t mean I haven’t lusted over photos and videos of them for years. I find the concept of the Northern Lights as proof that magic exists in the form of Mother Earth (don’t even get me started on the theories about how the Northern Lights are coming from Hollow Earth)
But any rate, the inner capitalist in me can’t help but think one thing when I see the Northern Lights: let’s bottle this bitch up and sell it at Nordstrom.
2. The Ancient Aire baths (although that J’adore commercial tried to draw the perfume parallel)
I’m obsessed with the Ancient Aire baths in Tribeca. They’re this bougie spa that I’ve been to three times now, that emulate Roman bath houses - but in a rich, 21st century way.
One of the reasons I love them so much is because it makes me feel like I’m in the J’adore Charlize Theron perfume commercial. I shouldn’t even have to show a photo because you should already know what I’m talking about (the commercial was that good) but because it’s gorgeous, I’m showing a photo anyway:
Just imagine if that photo could be turned into a perfume? Technically, it was a perfume commercial, but I’ve smelled the fragrance and I have to say, I just think the commercial was better than the scent.
3. This green dress that Zendaya wore
I love…everything that Zendaya has ever worn on a red carpet. I don’t know who styles her (or if she styles herself) but I pour over red carpet photos of her on Twitter at least once a month.
So many of her outfits are incredible, but this green number in particular takes my breath away every time.
I just know that this dress as a perfume would smell elegant, musky and regal all at the same time. I need it. And I need her to star in the commercial for that perfume - and give Charlize a run for her damn money.
4. The smell of pavement after there’s been a rainstorm
Now this item on the list actually is a smell already, but I don’t think anyone has ever been able to capture or recreate it for a perfume.
(Once again the inner capitalist in me is screaming)
As Taylor Swift sings in Fearless, there’s something about the way, the street smells when it’s just rained and honey, she is right. It smells new, and fresh, and full of possibilities and I want that in a perfume!
Granted, I could see the smell getting a bit…moldy. But I would still buy this on Amazon.
5. The feeling when a little kid plays with your hair
Ah, the privilege of being a woman and being able to write that title above without being called a creep haha. I think we all know this feeling - and if you don’t, I think it’s worth having a child just to experience this.
It feels so special and soft and nice and gentle when a little kid with their little kid hands plays with your hair and tries to give you a hairstyle. It never looks good, but that doesn’t matter. It’s all about the bonding and it’s just so sweet and darling of a feeling and I know it’s a feeling but if it could be made into a smell and bottled into perfume I know mothers would wear it daily. Again, I foresake a treasured memory for the chance to make a profit.
So! Let me know if you have a signature scent, and if not - which memory/feeling/nature light show you would want to turn into perfume. My hope is that someone forwards this to Jeff Bezos and we can get at least 2/5 on the list made by next quarter (and I would like a 10% stake in the profits)
Until the next one,
S
